Being Thankful….

Feeling grateful or appreciative of someone or something in your life actually  attracts more of the things that you appreciate and value into your life. –Christiane Northrup

If the only prayer you ever say in your entire life is thank you, it will be enough. — Meister Eckhardt

In everyone’s life, at some time, our inner fire goes out. It is then burst into flame by an encounter with another human being. We should all be thankful for those people who rekindle the inner spirit. — Albert Schweitzer

Turkey, mashed potatoes, squash, cranberry salad, warm rolls, stuffing, gravy….doesn’t that make your mouth water? Getting up early, thawing the turkey, making the stuffing, peeling potatoes, setting the perfect table, eating til you are coma-full and then cleaning up all the dishes….doesn’t that make you tired? All the dishes that took you all day to prepare the feast and having it all eaten in record time….relatives asleep on the couch while a game of some sort blares from the tv…and let’s not forget dwe still have pie for dessert. We may be so full, but we find room for that slice of apple or pumpkin pie. Every year my mom’s pies are so good, yet every year she criticizes herself – “the crust isn’t flaky enough” ” the apples didn’t cook enough” – all the while we inhale it and rave about how good it REALLY is.

Those are all typical things we find year after year on Thanksgiving. This year I want us all to stop, and take the time to be grateful and appreciate what we have. We get so caught up in the food, celebration, shopping for gifts the day after…retail retail retail. Slow down…..look around….take in the smells of the holiday. Thank the person who has cooked all day for this beautiful meal. Hug your family members and tell them how thankful you are for them. Especially ones who travel from a far – tell them you are thankful they arrived safely with crappy weather. Be thankful for all the wonderul things you DO have this holiday season, don’t feel bad about all the things you may not have. Life is short for so many people – appreciate all the gifts God has given us and celebrate! Happy Thanksgiving!!!!!!!
